Charity donation treasure valued by Heirlooms!
In a scenario worthy of Antiques Roadshow, we were approached by a local charity who had been given a donation of a rather unusual ring and they asked us whether it was of any value.
The striking diamond and onyx ‘domino’ dress ring in yellow gold was immediately identified by Heirlooms owner, Amy Brenan, as a superb example of Art Deco jewellery from the 1920’s or 30’s and valued at £800!
Amy loves the ring and says: “It’s a beautiful piece in excellent condition given its age. It’s got a playful element as it is based on a domino. The 1920’s was a popular era of gambling and gaming, and the contrast between black and white was very on trend then. Think Coco Chanel, The Great Gatsby and geometric designs.”
The Art Deco era runs from c1920-1935 where significant social changes took place during the post-war years and were quickly reflected in the jewellery designs of the day. Sharp edged geometric shapes combined with bright colours and the use of new materials such as resin, bakelite and semi-precious stones such as lapis lazuli and onyx were revolutionary. At this time, jewellery was not just worn to demonstrate social status or wealth but was worn as an accessory, in new and exciting ways, giving women personal style and identity.
The domino ring takes centre stage with its story in our window for all to enjoy but it is for sale to raise funds for Julia’s House, a children’s hospice in Dorset & Wiltshire. The award-winning charity provide practical and emotional support for families caring for a child with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition, providing frequent and regular support in their own homes, in the community or at their hospices.
If you are interested in buying the ring, please call Amy or Jo on 01929 554207. All proceeds will go to Julia’s House as Heirlooms will not be taking a commission for selling the piece.
