A Victorian 9ct rose gold hairwork ring
This 9ct rose gold ring is set with five panels of finely plaited brunette human hair running around the entire shank of the ring. The gold is carefully engraved with patterns . The top of the ring has a rectangular panel with the initials ‘OB’ engraved.
The ring is hallmarked for Chester, 1890 with the makers initials W. G. (?) (the makers mark is slightly worn).
This ring was most likely made as a piece of mourning jewellery, given after death to family members as a celebration of a life. To think that each strand of hair was carefully plaited by hand is incredible!
