The influence of the Arts and Crafts movement on the jewellery industry was characterised by the use of alternative materials and styles. Silver and copper become widely used at this period as an alternative to traditional gold and semi-precious gemstones were used as alternatives to rubies, emeralds and sapphires, for example moonstone, turquoise and onyx.
